Clinician Training

Clinician Training with AppLocum

All clinicians have mandatory clinician training they must keep up to date with. The basic trainings must be refreshed between every 1-2 years depending on the topic. Here we look into the mandatory clinician training involved in the healthcare sector and discuss why AppLocum feel it is important to deliver these to all our registered locums.

Why is Mandatory Clinician Training Required?

In order for any clinician to practice, all mandatory trainings must be completed. Our dedicated compliance team are continuously checking our candidates’ documents in order to be aware of any training certificates due for renewal.

With certificates requiring renewal, AppLocum offer the opportunity to do this through our company. The compliance team check documents of candidates active within the last 6 months on a weekly basis. Should compliance find that documents and certificates are due to expire, you will receive a notice via email or call. If any documents have expired and no renewal has taken place, we will not be able to work you within any vacancies until proof of your new certificate is provided.

What can AppLocum do For You?

Here at AppLocum we like to make things convenient and easy for you. We conduct mandatory clinician training days quarterly from the convenience of our office in Greater Manchester just off the M60. The training days include many perks and give you the opportunity to meet the AppLocum team, however, the most important aspect of the inhouse training days is the coverage of each subject.
AppLocum cover everything from Infection, Prevention & Control through to Anaphylaxis, the coverage of units is broad and extensive.

Training provided by outsourced companies can cost up to £400 and often doesn’t cover all aspects of mandatory training required in order to practice. Applocum cover an extensive range of units within one simple day. The units are delivered by a highly skilled and qualified practitioner, qualified to assess and teach mandatory training. The benefit of being trained by a practicing clinician is the understanding, empathy and consideration that comes with the trainer.

Building Relationships

As an agency we feel it is important to build good working relationships with our registered locums. Divisional Manager Sai says, “We organise our locum’s diaries. We know when they are free for training, when they are working shifts and when they need some down time. We also take note of their trainings and expiration dates. Therefor it makes sense to offer them the option of training through AppLocum and make the process easier. Organising their time even further!”

Ultimately, we organise our locum’s time and ensure they get the most from their experience with AppLocum. By offering the opportunity of easy access to important training certificates we are going above and beyond for our clinicians.
Not only do we offer the fantastic opportunity of receiving all your trainings in one go, but we also provide lunch and gift bags for the locums attending! Just one of many perks!

What we Cover

The trainings you require in order to practice have been outlined by your governing body. For nurses this is the RCN, for GPs the CQC, both boards are crucial and mandatory trainings are compulsory. In total AppLocum can deliver fifteen units in one easy training day. The units covered are as follow:

– Lone working

– Anaphylaxis

– Health, Safety & Welfare

– Fire Safety

– Infection, Prevention & Control

– Information Governance & Data Security

– Safeguarding Adults CSTF Level 2

– Safeguarding Children CSTF Level 2

– Equality, Diversity & Human Rights

– Mental Capacity Act/ DoLS

– Conflict Resolution Training

– Moving & Handling CSTF Level 2 (BVS Practical & Theory DVDs)

– Resuscitation CSTF Level 2 Basic Life Support

– Preventing Radicalisation CSTF Level 3 Prevent Awareness

– Food & Hygiene (This is not mandatory but still delivered)

On completion of your mandatory clinician training course you will receive a certificate, outlining the units covered and the levels gained. Your certificate can be sent via email or post. Once we have received evidence of this certificate our compliance team will then update your records in accordance with the requirements to work.

As highlighted, outsourced companies will often not cover all units of mandatory training. We have made the process simple and easy for our clinicians as we understand that time is important, we will only ever ask for one day in return for the complete training certificate.

Why do I Need These?

Mandatory trainings are deemed compulsory in order to deliver safe and efficient care to patients, by offering training days we are ensuring that clients receive nothing but the highest of quality candidates to fill vacancies. When placing you within a healthcare establishment we not only want to ensure the patients are safe and well looked after, but we want you to feel confident, informed and competent. Upon placing a practitioner in a vacancy, the Practice Manger will receive your complete file, with evidence of all mandatory trainings and required documentation. Not only does mandatory training cover you, but it also ensures the client is covered and assured they are receiving a qualified, high quality candidate for the vacancy. This in turn will create further opportunities for locums through AppLocum with top surgeries throughout the country.

Further News

Over 2019 we are looking to expand the amount of training courses we provide to our registered locums and ensure we cover ever requirement requested by clients. February 2019 saw the first MSK – Musculoskeletal training course, provided by one of our fantastic, talented practitioners from the office in Greater Manchester.

This training proved to be extremely beneficial to the practitioners that attended, they felt they had the opportunity to broaden their knowledge and apply this throughout practice.
As the feedback from this amazing training day was positive, we have a view to continue to provide this training course throughout the year.
